Kyobashi Nitoryu is an izakaya serving sashimi, seasonal seafood and charcoal-grilled dishes alongside sake and wine. Diners have enjoyed seafood ajillo and clay-pot rice, while the sake selection ranges from sharply dry to fresh and aromatic styles.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
When ordering sashimi, try varying the accompaniments: soy sauce, ponzu, or rock salt with sudachi citrus. Diners at Kyobashi Nitoryu have described sharing assortments that included Spanish mackerel, flounder, striped jack, seared cutlassfish and medium-fatty tuna, changing how they ate each fish. The sashimi selection varies with the day’s orders and ingredients, but it is a good way to get a feel for a restaurant whose cooking centres on seasonal seafood. The menu also lists bluefin tuna, both lean and medium-fatty, roughly chopped striped jack and namero, a finely chopped fish dish, offering plenty of other seafood small plates to explore.
Japanese dishes with a Western touch are another appealing option. One diner ordered a generously filled seafood ajillo with sea bream, clams and broccoli, served with baguette and flavoured with shuto, a fermented seafood condiment. The menu extends beyond fish to charcoal-grilled meat, too. On the same visit, the diner enjoyed charcoal-grilled wagyu rump cap with fresh wasabi and vegetables. Whether you want to build a meal around a succession of seafood plates or make meat the centrepiece, there is room to tailor the evening.
The sake list invites a little exploration. The menu describes Kudoki Jozu Bakuren as extremely dry, with a ginjo aroma, rounded character and crisp finish. Bijoufu Tokubetsu Junmai Nama Genshu is presented with citrus notes, clear acidity and a fresh, juicy finish. Choose a clean, dry sake to accompany the food, or follow the aromas and acidity instead. One diner paired Hakurakusei with sashimi and Houken with blackthroat seaperch, suggesting that the type of fish can be a useful guide. Sparkling wine and still wine are also available.
Seasonal clay-pot rice makes a fitting end to the meal. In one account, the version served with sea bream had ginger-scented rice with a hint of yuzu, accompanied by miso soup and pickles. Another diner wrote that they went back for more of the clay-pot rice served at the end of a set meal. It can carry the meal’s flavours through to the final course after a leisurely evening of food and drinks.
Ordering several small plates and switching between drinks could work well for dinner with friends or fellow food lovers. The restaurant recommends booking for dinner, so it is worth reserving a table when going as a group.
